10 Best Exercise Bike under 500 [2022]

The old adage “you get what you pay for” is generally true, but every now and again you can get a good deal by circumventing the system.

My proof is this list of the finest workout bikes under $200 for 2022.

Getting anything of good quality for around $200 is a tremendous bargain in the exercise equipment market.

Fortunately for us, there are some really affordable exercise bikes on the market this year that are truly worth purchasing.

But beware: there’s a lot of garbage out there as well.

I’ve given a few tips for what you should check for (and compare) between budget exercise bikes before making a purchase to ensure you don’t squander your money.

P.S.- Fitness equipment prices fluctuate frequently, and certain machines may have increased in price since this post was written; I apologize in advance if any bikes have increased in price above $500.

10 Best Exercise Bike under 500 [2022]

Schwinn Recumbent Bike Series

Weight limit of 400 pounds is a plus.
Seat height can be adjusted to accommodate people up to 6’5′′ tall.
8 levels of magnetic resistance that can be adjusted
For storage, it easily folds in half.
Seat is extra-large for increased comfort.
Grip heart rate sensor comes with a one-year warranty.

Shorter people (under 5’2′′) may find it difficult to utilize.
There have been several issues with assembling.

Because of its robust structure and capacity to accommodate larger riders, the Exerpeutic Gold 500 XLS is at the top of the list for upright bikes.

These are features that most low-cost exercise bikes lack. Exerpeutic’s heavy-duty bike can support users weighing up to 400 pounds and standing up to 6’5′′ tall.

This is fantastic news for big and tall riders seeking for a low-cost bike.

The Exerpeutic Gold has eight levels of resistance that may be adjusted by turning a dial. The majority of users say the resistance is adequate for a good workout.

Just make sure you follow the directions carefully when putting together the wire component for the resistance; some customers have reported that this section is a little tough.

This bike, as you might have guessed from the name, folds in half for simple storage. If you’re searching for a bike that will fit in a tight place, this is a wonderful feature to have.

Moving this machine shouldn’t be a problem because it just weighs about 50 pounds and has built-in transport wheels.

To improve comfort during use, Exerpeutic equipped this bike with an over-sized, padded seat. The uncomfortable seat appears to be a widespread issue with all exercise bikes.

I know since I own a spin bike and had to install a gel cushion on the seat because it was so painful. This model’s larger seat should assist.

A basic LCD display monitor and a grip heart rate monitor are included with the Exerpeutic Gold 500 XLS. During workouts, these capabilities make it simple to keep track of information like time, distance, speed, and heart rate.

A one-year limited warranty is included with this bike. This is advantageous because many exercise bikes at this price point do not.

Overall, the Exerpeutic Gold 500 XLS Foldable Upright Bike is an excellent option for larger people seeking for a low-cost bike.

It’s built to last longer than any other bike in its class, and it can adapt to fit riders up to 6’5′′ tall.

It also folds up for convenient storage. The majority of user reviews for this bike are positive.

Marcy Regenerating Recumbent Exercise Bike

The weight limit is 300 pounds.
8 levels of magnetic resistance that can be adjusted
Large, comfy seat with LCD display
For storage, it folds in half.
Lightweight and portable
Simple to assemble

For taller users, the space is insufficient.
The straps on the pedals may wear out over time.

This Exerpeutic folding upright bike is at the top of every “cheap best of” list.

This is due to the fact that this bike has a lot of features and is far under the $200 budget we set for ourselves.

When not in use, the Exerpeutic folds in half for simple storage—ideal if you live in a tiny apartment or a house with shared exercise space.

The Exerpeutic Folding Upright Bike has a weight capability of 300 pounds.

It’s not quite as heavy-duty as its bigger sibling, but it’s still astounding considering it only weighs approximately 40 pounds.

Keep in mind, however, that this bike can only comfortably fit riders between the heights of 5’3′′ and 6’1′′.

The extra-large seat on this bike will come in handy, especially on extended journeys. It is more comfortable to sit on because of the spacious seat, which is a common problem with both budget and high-end bikes.

The Exerpeutic has a small display panel that shows time, distance, calories, speed, and heart rate, among other things (yes, this bike does have a grip heart rate monitor).

It also includes 8 degrees of magnetic resistance and built-in transport wheels so you can move it from room to room with ease.

This bike comes with a one-year warranty from Exerpeutic. This is a good deal in this pricing range.

In this pricing bracket, the Exerpeutic Folding Upright Bike is hard to beat.

It has a large weight capacity and folds up effortlessly for storage. Just make sure you’re not too tall to ride it comfortably.

There are eight different levels of resistance.

There is no heart rate monitor.
After riding, you may need to tighten things up.

Marcy’s upright exercise bike has received a lot of positive feedback from users.

This exercise bike is nicely built for the price and comes well below the $200 restriction (it’s the cheapest upright cycle on this list).

And, while it may not seem like it, the Marcy Upright Bike is one of the more attractive exercise bikes in this price range.

Marcy has built a reputation for delivering high-quality, low-cost fitness equipment. I love their spin cycles, which we’ll talk about soon.

This upright bike has a weight capacity of 300 pounds, which is decent considering the frame’s small weight, but not nearly as spectacular as Exerpeutic Gold.

The adjustable seat height is another fantastic feature of this training bike. The height accommodations are not listed by the manufacturer, however reports indicate that it may comfortably seat individuals between the heights of 5′ and 6′ 4′′.

This is a range that most of us will fall into. Even though they were considerably below the 300-pound limit, some users complained of minor wobble during use.

There are eight manual resistance levels on the Marcy Upright Bike.

To increase or decrease resistance, turn the dial. This type also has a small LCD display screen where you can see your workout statistics.

This is very normal fare.

This bike has huge, foam-covered handlebars, which I appreciate.

I never would have suspected it until I started cycling regularly, but applying pressure on the handlebars can actually make your hands unpleasant.

During your workout, the added foam padding will make your hands and wrists feel a little better.

A grip heart rate monitor is not included with this bike. It’s also not foldable.

This bike has a small footprint and is easy to travel thanks to the integrated wheels.

However, if you want to track your heart rate during your workout, I recommend switching to a different bike.

Overall, the Marcy Upright Exercise Bike is a good workout machine at a reasonable price. The fact that it doesn’t have a heart rate monitor is its major flaw.

Unless you enjoy the way it looks, I see no reason to choose this bike over the Exerpeutic Gold (I admit, it does look better). However, as seen by the good reviews it consistently obtains, users are pleased with this bike.

Exerpeutic 400XL Folding Recumbent Bike

Flywheel weight: 30 lbs
During use, it has a smooth, natural sensation.
Seat is fully adjustable.
Handles that can be adjusted in height
Transport wheels built-in
3-year frame warranty, 90-day parts warranty

Weight restriction is 220 pounds.
There will be no display.

Sunny Health and Workout is another company that has created a reputation for itself by producing high-quality fitness equipment at an inexpensive price.

And, if you ask me, it’s their spin cycles that really stand out.

Their bikes are quite economical, and they always have somewhat better specs than the competition. All of this is true for their SF-B1001 Indoor Cycling Bike.

I’m going to start with the bike’s most significant flaw: its weight capacity. The SF-B1001 has a 220 pound weight limit.

I realize that figure is absurdly low; this bike will not accommodate larger riders.

  • Foldable recumbent exercise bike with quiet V-belt double-drive transmission system
  • Precision-balanced flywheel; 8-level adjustable magnetic tension control system

Unfortunately, the majority of spin bikes in this price range have far lower weight capacities than the upright bikes we reviewed earlier.

However, I believe that the bike’s other benefits exceed this disadvantage.

Let’s take a look at the Sunny SF-most B1001’s redeeming feature: the flywheel. Flywheel weights are important for spin bikes, as mentioned in the introduction.

The majority of people prefer bigger flywheel weights since they make the bike seem more natural and smoother when riding.

The B1001 has a 30 pound flywheel, which is quite impressive for a bike that costs less than $200.

The SF-B1001 also has a fully adjustable bicycle seat that can be adjusted in height, as well as fore and aft (forward and back). If you’re new to riding, you should be aware that typical bike seats are not particularly comfy.

It takes some time to get used to them. If it’s too unpleasant, you could wish to invest in a gel cushion overlay.

Turning a knob increases or decreases the resistance. The resistance is provided by a felt pad pressed on the flywheel. This is typical of low-cost spin bikes.

The magnetic resistance on more priced bikes will be controlled electronically.

This bike also comes with built-in transport wheels and is rather simple to put together. A water bottle holder is included. The SF-B1001 does not, however, feature a display.

Some spin bikes have this feature, whereas others do not. Even many high-end spin bikes don’t have this feature. Something to think about: if you want to see the time and calories burned, you might want to consider the next bike.

Overall, the Sunny SF-B1001 is a wonderful spin bike at a great price…as long as you don’t exceed the weight limit. This bike is clearly better suited to smaller riders (under 6’1′′ in height).

You’ll probably enjoy a smooth ride because to the heavy flywheel, and consumers think that this is a terrific investment.

For enhanced comfort, the seat is cushioned with leather.
Flywheel weight: 30 lbs
Built-in transport wheels

There have been a few reports of malfunctioning displays.
There have been several complaints concerning the tension knob’s functionality.

The Merax Fitness Indoor Cycling Trainer is a cost-effective spin cycle for larger users. This bike has a 300-pound weight capacity, which is excellent for the price.

This demonstrates how robust and well-built this bike is. This, combined with the completely adjustable seat, should make this bike an excellent alternative for taller people.

An LCD display is also included with the Merax Indoor Cycle. If you want to keep track of time and distance, this is a useful feature. Many spin bikes, especially those that are more expensive, do not come with monitors.

The seat of this spin bike includes a little more padding. Some users say it helps them, while others say it doesn’t. Spin bike seats, unfortunately, are uncomfortable and take some getting used to.

However, if you wish to upgrade your seat on your own, it’s simple to do so with these spin bikes.

The Merax Indoor Cycle, like the SF-B1001, has a 30 pound flywheel, which is great for a budget cycle and plenty of weight to make your workouts smooth and effective.

Tension is adjusted by rotating a knob, which can also be pressed to act as a brake for stopping.

On paper, this bike appears to offer a few advantages over the SF-B1001.

It has the same weight capacity and flywheel weight as the SF-B1001, as well as a display monitor (and is less expensive).

Unfortunately, several consumers have reported malfunctioning parts or pieces that wear out quickly. There’s also no mention of a warranty on this product, which is why it’s ranked second on the list.

Users, on the whole, are pleased with the Merax Indoor Cycling Trainer. It’s a heavy-duty spin bike with a display and a low price tag.

It features a heavy enough flywheel to ensure a smooth, silent ride, and it has a lot of positive customer reviews online.

Sunny Health & Fitness Indoor Cycle Exercise Bike

Seat is fully adjustable.
The LCD display on the 22-pound flywheel allows you to keep track of your numbers.
Handles are padded with foam.

Weight capacity: 220 lbs
The handle bars aren’t movable.
90-day guarantee

This spin bike looks a lot like the SF-B1001, however there are a few differences. To begin with, the flywheel on this bike is barely 22 pounds.

This isn’t bad for a bike this cheap, but it won’t feel as smooth as the 30 pound flywheel.

You’ll also notice a significant difference in the handlebars, which aren’t adjustable. This indoor cycle is less customizable, which means it won’t comfortably accommodate as many individuals.

On this spin bike, the weight capacity remains the same at 220 lb. This is a little lower than I’d prefer, but if you’re a little person, you shouldn’t have any problems riding this bike.

This cycle is not meant for people who are particularly tall or large. If you’re above 6 feet tall, I wouldn’t recommend buying this bike.

Both the height and the fore/aft position of the seat can be adjusted.

The seat on this model is a little larger than standard, which may assist with comfort, but if you’re expecting for a seat that looks like it belongs on a road bike, you’ll be disappointed.

An LCD display screen is included with this indoor cycling cycle, which is a good feature. This allows you to keep track of your time, distance, and calories burned.

In comparison to the SF-B1001, you’ll notice that this bike’s guarantee is drastically decreased. A 90-day warranty is largely ineffective.

It says a lot about your product if you can only guarantee it for 90 days.

But, I suppose, it’s better than no warranty. I suppose we should also keep in mind the pricing range we’re in.

Overall, given the price, the Sunny Health & Fitness Indoor Cycling Bike is a good buy. However, unless the extra $60 is a deal breaker, there is no reason to choose this one over the SF-B1001.

However, users are generally pleased with this bike, as seen by its high Amazon ratings.

RENPHO AI Smart Exercise Bike

Instructions for assembly are difficult to follow.

Yes, recumbent bikes are available for under $200… That’s pretty cool, huh? Recumbent bikes are popular because they are more pleasant to ride and place less strain on the joints.

This style of bike is also ideal for elderly. The Exerpeutic 900XL is at the top of our list since it has a high weight capacity, comes with a heart rate monitor, and even comes with a warranty.

The maximum weight capacity of the Exerpeutic 900XL is 300 pounds. This is a good deal for a recumbent bike that costs less than $200 and weighs only 63 pounds.

This bike includes a horizontally adjustable seat that allows it to accommodate people of various heights.

It should be able to comfortably accommodate users ranging in height from 5’3′′ to 6’3′′.

There are eight degrees of resistance in the Exerpeutic 900XL. This is adjustable by twisting a knob, exactly like the majority of the bikes we’ve talked about thus far.

Users complained that after assembly, they had to tweak the resistance knob since it was too tough at the lowest setting.

This appears to be more of an assembly issue, as several people have complained about difficulty following the guidelines.

This bike comes with a fairly conventional LCD display panel that displays all of the expected information. A grip heart rate monitor is included in the handles to help you keep track of how hard you’re working.

On the console, there are also a couple of small handles if you wish to change your grip. For increased comfort, this is a lovely touch.

The warranty on the Exerpeutic 900XL is causing some misunderstanding online.

The 900XL has a one-year frame warranty and a 90-day components warranty, according to Paradigm (the supplier).

In general, the Exerpeutic 900XL Recumbent Bike is a good value for money.

It has a good weight capacity of 300 pounds, and the seat can be adjusted to properly fit most users.

The warranty is limited, but that is to be expected with budget bikes. Just be cautious when putting everything together; this is where the majority of complaints come.

Regardless, this is a really popular bike.

ADVENOR Magnetic Resistance Exercise Bike

There is no heart rate monitor.

Marcy offers a recumbent exercise bike that is remarkably comparable to the Exerpeutic 900XL.

The most significant difference is that this bike lacks a heart rate monitor and costs slightly less. It also comes with a greater frame guarantee.

The Marcy Recumbent Bike can also support riders up to 6’6′′ and has a 300-pound weight capacity.

This bike is a little lighter than the Exerpeutic, at roughly 60 pounds, so transporting it should be a breeze.

By moving the resistance knob, you may fine-tune your settings. There are fewer complaints about the resistance tension on this bike.

One person complained that the resistance was too simple until the last couple of levels.

An LCD display screen displaying speed, distance, time, calories, and an odometer is also included with this bike. The heart rate monitor is the only item missing.

If you don’t care about heart rate monitoring or already have one, this may be a decent option because it’s a little less expensive than the Exerpeutic.

The frame of this bike is covered by a two-year Marcy warranty. Not bad for a bike that costs less than $200.

The Marcy Recumbent bike has a rather spacious seat and oversized handrails. This seat will be more comfortable than a spin bike’s, but it will not feel like a high-end recumbent bike you might find at the gym.

Just a heads up: these “padded” seats aren’t that comfortable.

Overall, if you don’t mind not having a heart rate monitor, the Marcy Recumbent Bike is a good pick.

It holds the same amount of weight as the Exerpeutic and comes with a greater warranty (as well as a better price).

This bike is also quite popular online, with many positive customer reviews.

NordicTrack Commercial Studio Cycle

The weight limit is 380 pounds.

Simple to put together

Shorter users may find it uncomfortable.

The Merax Recumbent is ranked third among our recumbent bikes. This bike made the list because of its excellent weight capacity, guarantee, and ease of seat adjustment.

Although it is slightly over our $200 limit (my apologies), I believe it is still worth mentioning.

To begin with, the Merax features a 380-pound weight capacity.

This is excellent, but there is a statement on the manufacturer’s website suggesting that for long-term use, a lower weight capacity (242 lb) is recommended.

This is an unusual situation.

They’re basically claiming that the bike can hold a 380-pound individual, but that it won’t last with this user?

Hmm… So, I guess they’re being truthful.

If you’re concerned about this as a larger user, Merax offers a 3-year frame warranty and a 90-day parts warranty. If that’s of any assistance.

The resistance knob on this bike is the same as the one on the other two recumbent bikes. However, I appreciate the fact that this bike has a more convenient seat adjustment.

While you can modify this seat while sitting in it, most of these bikes are easier to alter without you on them. The seat may be simply shifted forward or backward thanks to a lever given by Merax.

Users between the heights of 5’2′′ and 6’5′′ should be able to ride this bike comfortably.

A grip heart rate monitor and an LCD display screen are also included with the Merax. The graph shows all of the metrics we mentioned earlier.

The Merax’s ease of assembly has been praised by users. Many inexpensive motorcycles suffer from poor assembly, but the Merax is surprisingly simple to assemble.

Overall, I like the Merax because it has a large weight capacity and a comfortable seat. It also comes with one of the most comprehensive warranties I’ve seen on a budget computer.

This bike is a wonderful option for larger people seeking for a low-cost recumbent bike.

Check out my comprehensive recumbent bike guide for more information on higher-end alternatives.

YOSUDA Indoor Cycling Bike Stationay Bike

Air resistance is limitless.
LCD display with adjustable railing arms
There is a table holder on the monitor (media shelf)
Seat is large and adjustable.
Transport wheels built-in for simple mobility

Weight capacity is limited (240 lb)
There is no guarantee.

To begin, I’d want to state that getting a legitimate air bike for under $200 is difficult.

High-end air cycles range in price from $600-$900 and can provide a world-class exercise thanks to the fan’s infinite resistance.

The majority of air bikes under $200 are hybrids rather than true fan bikes. There are a few that have a fan at the front but still have a resistance dial, despite the fact that a true fan bike does not require one.

The Zephyr Air Bike is available at Sunny Health & Fitness.

Because the resistance is generated by the fan cutting through the air, this is a real air fan bike.

This is advantageous since the harder you pedal, the greater the resistance.

You are only limited by your strength and endurance in terms of how much resistance you can achieve.

Returning to the Zephyr (cool name by the way). The weight capacity of this fan bike is 240 pounds. This isn’t as spectacular as some of the previous figures.

But this is what we get with fan bikes in this price bracket. Unfortunately, larger people will have to save up a little more for a more powerful bike.

The seat on the Zephyr Air Fan Bike may be adjusted (height). It also contains an LCD display screen on which you can see the time, speed, RPM, distance traveled, and calories burned.

This bike does not have a heart rate monitor. In fact, most fan bikes lack a heart rate monitor.

This bike’s handrail arms are also adjustable, which is a useful feature for ensuring a comfortable fit for a wider range of users. For enhanced comfort, the seat is broad and padded.

Overall, the Sunny Health & Fitness Zephyr Air Fan Bike is one of the best under $200 bikes available. This company appeals to me, because they are known for providing high-quality, low-cost equipment.

This bike should be suitable for smaller riders or those who are new to the world of air bikes. A more sturdy bike is required for larger people or professional competitors.

Sorry, but there was only one air bike on the list. I can’t vouch for a “fan bike” with a dial for resistance adjustment. That contradicts the point entirely.

Only a fan is required for a true fan bike.

When Crossfit competitors began utilizing them in their training, these bikes resurfaced in popularity.

Crossfit athletes are among the fittest individuals on the planet, and they use air bikes for their workouts because of the endless resistance potential.

I’m sure a lot of businesses are trying to cash in on their popularity by producing low-cost versions of the fan cycles we see on TV and in local gyms.

The high-end fan motorcycles, as I indicated, cost between $600-$900.

Although there aren’t many possibilities for under $200, once you reach $300, you have a lot more options.

That may be the subject of a separate piece.

What To Look For In A Budget Exercise Bike

Budget exercise bikes are typically smaller than higher-priced ones. This guideline isn’t set in stone, but it’s a good rule to follow.

This is one of the reasons why these bikes are initially less expensive.

If you are over 6 feet tall, you should double-check to ensure that you will be able to ride the bike comfortably.

Some inexpensive bikes struggle to accommodate taller riders.

Most users between the heights of 5’3′′ and 6’4′′ should be able to fit on a good budget exercise bike.

For larger people, certain models are a little better than others.

Weight Restrictions

The above-mentioned weight constraint goes hand in hand with the above-mentioned size concern.

The weight capacities of cheaper exercise bikes are frequently smaller as well.

Always, always, always double-check a bike’s weight restriction before buying it.

You want to make sure the bike can securely handle you, but the weight restriction also gives you an idea of the product’s quality.

If you can’t decide between two models, choose the one with the larger weight limit.

Although there are a few bikes on the list that fall short of this aim, I prefer to see weight limitations of at least 300 pounds.

Keep in mind our pricing range: a bike that costs less than $200 and can carry a 300-pound rider is outstanding in my book.

A warranty may or may not be included with exercise bikes priced under $200.

If they do, the warranty is usually 90 days or a limited 1-year warranty.

I’d recommend going with a bike that comes with a guarantee because it demonstrates the company is prepared to stand behind their product (even if it’s only for a short time).

Just don’t expect the inexpensive PCs to come with the same guarantees as the high-end equipment… It’s not going to happen.

The majority of the devices on this list have warranties ranging from one to three years.

Again, I recommend looking for a bike with a warranty; remember, something is better than nothing.

This may seem self-evident, but always verify the bike’s measurements (footprint) before purchasing.

Even though these bikes are often smaller, be sure you have enough room in your home for them.

I recommend that you double-check the measurements and then measure the area on your floor to see how it fits.

To ensure proper comfort, be sure to add a foot or more in each direction.

Some of these bikes can be folded, which is useful if you have limited space.

If you’re short on room, search for a bike that folds up for storage when not in use—it can make all the difference when you’re really short on space.

Budget exercise bikes won’t have as many bells and whistles as their higher-priced counterparts, but some will have more advanced functions.

A basic LCD display panel is standard on most exercise bikes in this price range. Some will also include a grip heart rate (HR) monitor.

In this price range, don’t expect bluetooth connectivity or fancy consoles with user profiles and fitness programs.

Regrettably, we will have to pay a little more for these benefits.

In this price range, you should look for adjustable seats and a bike that is easy to move.

Mobility is usually not an issue with exercise bikes in this price range because they are lightweight and have transport wheels.

Last Thoughts

We started with a few pointers on what to look for when comparing cheap exercise bikes, and then looked at the top ten under $200 exercise bikes for 2022.

I understand that everything seems to be more pricey these days. But, as I read over this list of bikes, I’m encouraged to find that there are still some nice prices to be found… provided we look in the proper areas.

There are many of possibilities in the under $200 pricing bracket, regardless of the style of bike you want. In this price range, you can get upright, spin, and recumbent bikes.

It’s tough to find a true air bike for this price, but if you’re under the weight limit, the Zephyr should suffice.

You can be happy with a budget exercise bike if you have realistic expectations. Remember that these bikes will not feel like the high-end equipment seen in gyms and rehab centers.

Those bikes are more expensive for a reason.

It makes all the difference in the world if you know what to expect. However, I hope that this list has shown you that inexpensive bikes can be useful.

After all, several of these bikes have weight capacities of 300 pounds or more, which, in my opinion, is incredible given the price range.

And if one of these bikes allows you to exercise more at home or perhaps eliminate the need for a club membership, I would consider that true value.

I hope you found this essay useful.

If you have any questions or concerns (or know of another budget bike that should have been on the list but wasn’t), please leave them in the comments section below and I’ll respond as soon as possible.
